ABOUT
Our approach
At On the Trail Supports, our approach is rooted in compassion, inclusivity, and collaboration.
At On the Trail Supports, our approach is rooted in compassion, inclusivity, and collaboration. We are committed to walking alongside you, not ahead of you.
Here's what sets our approach apart:
We’re neuro-affirming and inclusive
We take a neuro-affirming approach, celebrating neurodivergent identities rather than framing them as deficits. Our team uses identity-first language (e.g., Autistic person, ADHD person), recognising neurodivergence as a core part of identity. However, we respect individual preferences—whether you prefer person-first language (e.g., person with Autism), we follow your lead.
Your identity, your choice. Our support is also LGBTQIA+ inclusive, ensuring that everyone feels seen and understood.
We’re relational and collaborative
We work relationally and collaboratively with therapists, occupational therapists, support workers, and recovery coaches to maximise the effectiveness of their supports. Our goal is to address practical and interpersonal barriers, helping clients engage more fully with the services they need.
By partnering with other professionals, we ensure that clients receive comprehensive, well-rounded support that complements their services.
We’re flexible and offer consistent support
We provide flexible, trauma-informed mental health support and coaching tailored to your unique needs. Whether you're building confidence, re-entering work, or navigating overwhelm, we're here for the long haul.
Our services are designed to reduce overwhelm and foster real-world capacity, helping you achieve your goals in a manageable and sustainable way.
We’re holistic and practical
We support the parts of life that don’t fit neatly into a service category, helping you integrate therapeutic insights into your daily life. Many people struggle with operationalising therapy insights due to executive dysfunction and nervous system dysregulation, low mood, energy and overwhelm can create what can seem like insurmountable barriers. Drawing on lived experience, we combine habit and executive function coaching with peer-like validating support to help:
Create realistic, manageable strategies for daily life in an informal, activity-based way.
Cater to neurodivergent individuals (ADHD, autism, or other cognitive differences)
For example, if someone finds it hard to attend therapy, we first explore why (e.g., anxiety, transport issues, sensory overwhelm). We then work through solutions, which may include approaches such as practicing the trip together, introducing grounding techniques, or building trust in professionals.
We offer outreach and community-based support
Many services require travel to offices, clinics, or online sessions, which can be barriers due to mobility or sensory sensitivities, anxiety about new environments, and transport limitations.
We can come to you or meet in a comfortable environment, assisting with community participation and helping you engage in social, recreational, or daily activities.
